What is the difference between counselling & psychotherapy?

These two terms counselling, psychotherapy sometimes are used interchangeably. There are many similarities at the same time there are also certain differences. In Counselling the focus is on the particular problems that you are facing and the approach would be on learning new skills, problem solving etc. Psychotherapy would focus on a more broader and deeper set of issues, to understand how your patterns of thinking, feeling and behaviors affect how you deal with your life circumstances. The therapist would use empirically proven approaches, methodologies and techniques as part of the therapy process.
