Why should you stop struggling
When I stop struggling, I float.
So it is in life. When we face problems, we struggle so much sometimes, that we don’t get a clear picture of the problem and hence neither can we have any clarity on the potential possible solutions too.
Some times it is best to stop struggling, get a hold on ourselves emotionally if possible gain some perspective.
What do we end up typically doing while struggling –
- Feel angry, frustrated and some times even helpless.
- Blame the circumstances, people around and even ourselves – that doesn’t help either.
- Beat ourselves up – negative self talk, leading to lowered self esteem and decreasing confidence.
- Some times we cant even see any possible solutions that may be right in front of us.
When we stop struggling and calm down, it is possible to –
- Think about the problem calmly and understand its depth and dimensions better.
- Take responsibility for ourselves – with out any blame – enabling us to take affirmative action.
- Be able to think of the options and alternatives available – understand their effects and try out the options.
- If the problem cant be solved, take responsibility for our own state – try to manage our emotions and thoughts accordingly to cope with the situation.
- Seek relevant help appropriately as required from a trusted friend or family or seek help from a professional counsellor or a therapist.
I will write about gaining perspective in my next article.
